The sun watched over them from the sky.

When they reached the stream stretching into the lake, Biivuma lowered his massive head so the two little ones could swim out of his mouth to the shore through the shallow water. The water was warm. It tickled their bellies as they raced through it.

Once they reached land, the two tiny crocodiles rested their heads on the lake’s soft, washed sand. Just as the sun had watched over the rest of the world, it now watched over them, gently warming their backs under the guard of their huge father.

They lay with their tiny tails motionless.

They had no fear.

Not even a bird or bug scared them.

Biivuma had hidden himself under the water, only his sharp eyes peeking above the surface. He watched everything—reeds blown by the wind, tiny fish jumping by the shoreline, even the shadow of a falling leaf.

He saw it all.
