We need to let Go.
After we exit the communities that our initiatives are designed to transform...
June has taught us some lessons.
Sometimes we burn bridges with people we expected to collaborate with long-term. Other times, we unexpectedly find leaders who are completely open to supporting us, which has opened brand-new doors for our vision.
Yesterday as I shared one of our community stories in Fito’s Climate Justice Listening Fields. I was reminded that no matter how much effort we put into our work, implementation always reveals a blind spot. This realization came after children at a school from the lower classes openly told us we had bad manners. They explained that we had come to their school, shared all our beautiful materials and sessions with the older classes, but never stepped into their classrooms.
They didn’t just stop at complaining; they openly shared how unhappy they were seeing us at their school. We apologized, but the emotional damage had already been done.
It’s been weeks but this has stayed on my mind and one of the things I learnt yesterday is that “We Need To Let Go…”
Letting go and watching from the sidelines is the greatest thing a leader can do, especially if we want the work we love to be owned by the very communities it’s meant to transform. If you feel like you’re living in different realities every single day, trust me, you are not alone. My world changes daily depending on who I connect with. I’m learning that leadership demands a completely open mind, no matter how much experience you think you already have under your belt.
I am incredibly proud of the work our volunteer team is doing in community libraries and primary schools across Uganda. Unfortunately, we will not be conducting any learning sessions for children during the month of July as we temporarily shift our focus to find more climate education partners.

I invite you to…
Please share our work with your family, friends, and coworkers. You can encourage them to adventure with a purpose through our eco-tourism packages book here our eco tourism offers or ask them to join us as partners in scaling climate education across Uganda.
