Why I started Pause Conservations.
My 1st trip to Bugala Island on Lake Victoria, changed my life.
I was struck by the beauty of the lake, the joy of island communities, and the fragile balance of life that sustains them.
My curiosity led me from a banking job to hospitality, guiding travelers, cycling along the lake’s shores, and joining fishermen on their canoes.
The more I experienced, the more I realized that Lake Victoria was more than a tourist destination, it was a lifeline for people, animals, and ecosystems that were increasingly under threat.
Coming from a childhood on a farm,
I had learned the value of caring for plants and nature. I felt compelled to understand how people and biodiversity had coexisted for generations, and how we could protect that heritage.
What started as a festive and a responsible travel initiative had now evolved into Pause Conservations.
Pause Conservations exists because I believe Lake Victoria must remain a thriving lifeline, not just for people today, but for future generations who deserve to inherit a healthy ecosystem.
We are now formally registered as Pause Conservations with a mission to contribute to a reverse in the decline of biodiversity populations within in the Lake Victoria basin, dedicating ourselves to education, conservation, and community engagement.
